First baseman Mike Napoli continued to swing a hot bat, as he went 3-4 in the game, including a home run and a double.

Starting pitcher Jon Lester had a solid start, as he gave up two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work while striking out three batters.

Koji Uehara continues to be dominant in the closer’s role. Uehara pitched 1.2 innings and gave up no hits and struck out two batters.

Because of the win, the Red Sox are on the verge of appearing in their third World Series in the past decade.

“Our guys are well aware of where we are,” Red Sox manager John Farrell. “But at the same time, the beauty of them is to not get ahead of themselves, and that will be the case once that first pitch is thrown on Saturday.”

While the Tigers are staring elimination in the face, they’ll be more than capable of winning their next two games as they will send Max Scherzer to the mound for Game 6, while Justin Verlander would start Game 7.
