Michael Ford, Ruiz’s spokesman, says the Democratic congressman “stabilized the passenger” but he is unsure what happened to the man once he got off the plane in Raleigh, N.C., where the flight was temporarily diverted.

Another congressman, Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Texas, was also on the flight and tweeted about his freshman colleague stepping up to provide medical attention to a passenger who had collapsed.

“Medical emergency on flight from DC to TX. Passenger collapses. @CongressmanRuiz, an MD, on board. Passenger stabilized. Landing in Raleigh,” Gallego tweeted.  “Hope @CongressmanRuiz is on all my flights home! An emergency room dr by training, was impressive to see him in action. He saves lives!”

The plane the congressmen were on continued on to Dallas/Fort Worth, where Ruiz connected for his final leg to the Golden State.

Ruiz is not the only member of the 113th Congress who has stepped up to provide medical aid.

Politico first reported the news about Ruiz.
