Variety and other outlets are reporting that Jamie Dornan, a 31-year-old actor from Northern Ireland, has been cast in the role.  He replaces Charlie Hunnam, who departed the project earlier this month.

The studios behind the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, Universal Pictures and Focus Features, have yet to confirm Dornan’s involvement.

Dornan is a former Calvin Klein model who has appeared in the ABC series Once Upon a Time as Sheriff Graham.  He also stars in the U.K. drama The Fall.

Dornan only has a couple of film credits to his name; he was featured in Sofia Coppola’s 2006 movie Marie Antoinette.

It has been reported that Dornan and recent Tony Award nominee Billy Magnussen auditioned for the vacant Fifty Shades of Grey role last Friday.

Dakota Johnson will remain in the movie as college student Anastasia Steele, who enters into a submissive relationship with the billionaire Grey.

Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic bestseller, which is scheduled to begin production on Nov. 1.  The film will be released on Aug. 1, 2014.
