Severed Finger Points Police to Attempted Theft Suspect

Glendale Police Department(GLENDALE, Ariz.) — A severed finger found at a crime scene helped point police in Arizona to a man accused of trying to steal a spool of copper wire from an air conditioning company’s work truck.
When an employee walked outside to the truck parked outside his home earlier this month, police said he found a human finger snagged in the wiring, which had been unraveled some 20 feet from the vehicle.
Police retrieved the digit as evidence and sent it to the Glendale Police Forensics Unit, where a print on the finger was matched to 29-year-old Joshua Allen Goverman.
“I’m guessing he got in his car and was driving down the street trying to pull it off the spool and it got snagged on the tire of this Subaru right here. When that wired pulled tight, it popped the finger off,” a neighbor who saw the scene told ABC News’ Phoenix affiliate KNXV-TV.
Goverman was arrested a week later on a theft charge, according to police.
The nine-fingered suspect told police he lost his tenth digit while working on a car. He has since been bailed out of jail.
Not only did police say Goverman pointed the finger at himself as the perpetrator, but he also posted a photograph on Facebook of himself cleaning his finger stump one day after the attempted copper wire theft.
