Stocks Recover from Bumpy Start; S&P Closes at All-Time High

Getty 101713 WallStreet?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1382046301841iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — After a rocky open on Wall Street, the major averages recovered nicely Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the session basically flat, down two points at 15,371.65. The Nasdaq Composite gained more than half a percent to close at 3,863.15. The S&P 500 closed at a new all-time high up 11 points to 1,733.15.
 
After the bell Thursday Google is flying high, the search giant reported earnings and revenue that blew past analyst expectations. Shares of Google (GOOG) are up close to $60 a share after hours at $948 a share, a gain of almost seven percent.

Meanwhile, now that the government is open again the Energy Department has released Monday’s gas price numbers. The data showed gas prices were down from last week.  The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.35 on Oct. 14.
