(HOUSTON) — The Houston Texans named Case Keenum their starting quarterback for Sunday’s showdown against the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs. It will be Keenum’s first appearance in a regular season NFL game.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak says starting quarterback Matt Schaub won’t play due to an ankle and foot injury. Kubiak chose Keenum over backup quarterback T.J. Yates, after Yates threw two interceptions in last weekend’s loss to the St. Louis Rams.
The Texans signed Keenum last year as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Houston, where he became the NCAA’s all-time leader in total passing yards, touchdowns and completions. He spent last season on the Texans’ practice squad.
Houston has lost four straight, after opening the season 2-0.
