Texans to Stick with Matt Schaub as Starting QB

NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1381378582119National Football League (HOUSTON) —  Matt Schaub will remain the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans as they prepare to host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, but he will be on a very short leash.

Schaub threw three interceptions in last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.  One of them was returned for a touchdown, making Schaub the first quarterback in NFL history to throw interceptions that were returned for scores in four straight games.

The high turnover rate was the main reason why head coach Gary Kubiak struggled with the decision to name Schaub the team’s starting quarterback for this week.

“Tough decision,” he said. “Real tough. I feel like it’s the best thing for our football team this weekend and so there was a lot of thought put into it, a lot of evaluations.”

The Texans (2-3) have lost three-straight games after a 2-0 start to the season.  Schaub will look to put his poor play behind him and get the team back to where they want to be.

“I need to be better and I’ll be the first to admit that, so I can understand why he was torn in that decision,” Schaub said. “But I have confidence in my abilities and him deciding to start me this week, let’s go play ball.”
