“The Simpsons” to Kill off a Regular Character this Season

“We’re actually working on a script where a character will pass away,” Jean said during a conference call with reporters.  “I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.”

That clue doesn’t offer much insight because most of the cast, including Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart) and Yeardley Smith (Lisa), are all Emmy winners.  Even guest stars such as Anne Hathaway and Kelsey Grammer have won Emmys for their roles on the long-running Fox series.

Deaths in the fictional town of Springfield have happened before.  Ned Flanders lost his wife Maude Flanders in season 11 when she fell out of the grandstand at the racetrack, and more recently Fat Tony was killed off in season 22.
