Vanderbilt Knocks Off No. 15 Georgia 31-27
Published at(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Vanderbilt had to overcome a large deficit to earn its first SEC victory of the season.
Jerron Seymour scored on a 13-yard touchdown run with under three minutes remaining, and the Commodores scored 17-straight points in the fourth quarter to knock off No. 15 Georgia 31-27.
Vanderbilt (4-3, 1-3 SEC) lost starting quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels to a left leg injury in the second quarter and still managed to pull out the victory. They held the ball for more than 35 minutes and outgained Georgia 337-221 in total offense.
Aaron Murray was held to just 114 passing yards, but he became the SEC’s career leader in total offense late in the first quarter with a 7-yard pass to Arthur Lynch. He ran for a one-yard score to cap off the drive but did not have any touchdown passes.
Georgia (4-3, 3-2) are now losers of two-straight games after failing to hold a 27-14 lead with 6:24 remaining.
