49ers Place Nnamdi Asomugha on Waivers

Chris Trotman/Getty Images(SANTA CLARA, Calif.) — The San Francisco 49ers placed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on waivers Monday after activating Eric Wright and receiver Mario Manningham.
Asomugha was once considered one of the top defensive backs in the NFL. He signed with the 49ers during the offseason, but hasn’t played since Sept. 22 and has only recorded two tackles this season.
The 32-year-old Asomugha was released by the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason just two years after signing a five-year contract worth $60 million.
Wright is expected to contribute to a strong secondary which has played well during the team’s five-game winning streak. The 49ers face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
