“We’re a team of destiny,” Davis said. “We won’t take no for an answer.”

Alabama freshman kicker Adam Griffith missed a 57-yard field goal with one second remaining that would have won the game for the Tide.  Davis caught the ball nine yards deep in the endzone and the Tigers all but ended the two-time defending national champions’ BCS hopes.

Auburn (11-1, 7-1 SEC) clinched a spot in the conference championship game.  Alabama (11-1, 7-1) had plenty of chances to ice the game but could not put the Tigers away.

“That’s what you coach for, that’s what these kids play for, to get a chance to win the SEC championship,” Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said.

AJ McCarron passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns in just his third loss as Alabama’s starting quarterback.

“We had every opportunity to win the game and we just came up short,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said.
