Ceremony Honors Pocatello’s Only Medal of Honor Recipient

(POCATELLO, ID) – Officials in Bannock County gathered together Saturday to honor a Pocatello man who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for combat actions in Korea. November 2 has been declared county-wide as James Edmund Johnson Day. Marine Sgt. Johnson was only 24 years old when he fell on a battlefield in 1950. His daughter and grandson received commemorative plaques honoring Johnson, who is the only person from Bannock County to have been awarded the nation’s highest military decoration.
