After coming back early from a groin tear to play in the Bears 21-19 loss versus Detroit Sunday, Cutler has been ruled out of the Bears’ upcoming game against Baltimore with a high ankle sprain, Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Monday.

Cutler was injured in the game versus Detroit and had to be taken out on the team’s final drive.

“I think you all know he’s got a high ankle sprain,” Trestman said Monday. “He got it rolled on. It was unrelated to the groin injury. It happened in the second quarter. They taped him up. There was no indication from the trainers there would be any further injury. I asked them if the groin was an issue at all and they didn’t feel that [it] was. They told me that even today, if he hadn’t rolled up the ankle he would have been able to play today.”

With Cutler considered week-to-week, Josh McCown takes over as the Bears starting quarterback.

McCown has played well in Cutler’s absence this season.

The 34-year-old journeyman has completed 60% of his passes for 538 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
