Haren’s deal also includes a 2015 option that vests if Haren pitches 180 innings in 2014. He hasn’t reach the 180 inning mark since 2008.

The 33-year-old Haren is coming off one of his worst seasons of his 11-year-career. In his lone season with the Nationals, Haren went 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA, which was the highest ERA he’s had in a season since his rookie year in 2003.

Haren is expected to be the team’s fourth starter behind Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Hyun-Jin Ryu. Chad Billingsley is recovering from Tommy John Surgery and Josh Beckett had surgery in July to remove his top right rib to alleviate pressure on a nerve.

While pitching for the Cardinals, Athletics, Diamondbacks, Angels, and Nationals, Haren has a career record of 129-111.
