Ericsson Signs 6-Year Deal with Red Wings

2 27 12%20NHL%20Logo?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1385605099553Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images(DETROIT) — Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson signed a six-year, $25.5 million contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings Wednesday that will keep him in Detroit through the 2019-20 season.

“Im really sure I want to be here and that for me was a big thing,” Ericsson said. “I wanted to stay here as long they want me. I know I want to be here. I like it both on and off the ice. I’m really comfortable in the city and really like being here.”

The 29-year-old Ericsson was drafted by Detroit with the last pick of the 2002 NHL Draft.

He made his debut with the big club during the 2007-08 season and last year he averaged a career-high in minutes per game (21:19).

This season, the 6-foot-5 Ericsson averages over 22 minutes per game and has one goal, four assists and a plus-3 rating.
