ESPN: Padres Sign Josh Johnson
Published at(NEW YORK) — The San Diego Padres and free agent starting pitcher John Johnson have agreed to a one-year deal worth $8 million, according to ESPN.
The 29-year-old Johnson struggled this past season as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. He amassed a 6.20 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 81 1/3 innings pitched after coming over in a trade from the Miami Marlins last winter.
Johnson has dealt with many injury concerns over the course of his eight-year career, which is why he may have agreed to settle for a one-year deal on the free agent market.
For the Padres, Johnson will be a welcome addition to a pitching staff which ranked 12th in the NL in starters’ ERA and last in rotation WAR last year.
