Ex-Councilman Sentenced

(RIGBY, ID) – Former Rigby city councilman Lawrence Blackburn has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and 10 years probation for insurance fraud. Blackburn allegedly added his name as a beneficiary when 91-year-old Margaret Orvick died in 2011. He then continued to use money from Orvick’s accounts after her death to pay for business trips and other personal expenses. In addition, Blackburn was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, $30,000 in restitution to Orvick’s daughter, and serve 100 hours community service.
