Four Marines Killed in Camp Pendleton Accident
Published at(SAN DIEGO) — Four U.S. Marines were killed in an accident at Camp Pendleton in California Wednesday morning.
The military tells ABC News the four Marines died while handling unexploded ordnance at a firing range at Camp Pendleton. The incident did not happen during a live fire exercise. Exactly why the Marines were handling the unexploded ordnance is unknown.
Family members of the deceased Marines are now being notified. Until 24 hours after the families have been notified, authorities are not releasing the Marines’ names.
“We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of the Marines lost today in this tragic accident. Our first priority is to provide the families with the support they need during this difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. John W. Bullard, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West – Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Camp Pendleton officials say the accident is under investigation.
