(ARLINGTON, Texas) — The Texas Rangers re-signed free agent catcher Geovany Soto to a one-year contract on Tuesday. The deal is worth $3.05 million plus incentives, according to ESPN.
In 54 games with the Rangers this past season, Soto batted .245 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs while serving as the backup catcher to A.J. Pierzynski.
Texas originally acquired Soto in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on July 31, 2012. He was named the NL Rookie of the Year in 2008 in his first full season with the Cubs, after hitting .285 with 23 homers and 86 RBIs.
