The 38-year-old Hudson spent the previous nine seasons with the Atlanta Braves after he pitched for the Oakland Athletics the first six seasons of his career.

Hudson went 8-7 last season with a 3.97 ERA, which was his highest mark since 2006. He made just 21 starts last season after he suffered a broken right ankle.

The team has already resigned starter Tim Lincecum to a new deal, and the Giants already have an impressive staff that includes Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner.

Hudson will replace the spot in the rotation vacated by Barry Zito, who’s seven-year contract expired after the 2013 season. Hudson and Zito pitched together when they were both on the Athletics.

In 15 seasons, Hudson is 205-111 with a 3.44 ERA.
