Indians Sign Outfielder David Murphy to Two-Year Deal

Getty David Murphy?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1384959728269Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — After a surprise playoff appearance in 2013, the Cleveland Indians are looking to further improve their roster as they’ve reach an agreement with free agent outfielder David Murphy .

According to the Dallas Morning News, the deal is worth around $10 million on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old Murphy spent the previous six-plus seasons with the Texas Rangers. He joined the team back in 2007 when the Boston Red Sox traded him in exchange for then closer Eric Gagne.

Hitting wise, Murphy is coming off one of his worst seasons in the majors. In 2012 he hit .220 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs in 142 games. In 2012 he hit .304 with 15 home runs and 61 RBIs. For his career, Murphy has hit .275 in eight seasons.

Murphy also has postseason experience, as he’s hit .257 in 27 career postseason games with the Rangers.

In 2012, the Indians made the playoffs after winning 91 games, the most games they’ve won in a season since 2007.
