(NEW YORK) — Derek Jeter signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the New York Yankees, the team announced Friday.
The deal allows the Yankees to lock up their captain instead of waiting to see if Jeter picked up his $9.5 million dollar player option or tested free agency.
Jeter, 39, only played in 17 games last season due to an assortment of injuries that led to four stints on the disabled list.
During his 19 major league seasons, the 13-time All-Star has a career .312 average, 1,876 runs scored, 256 home runs, 3,316 hits and 348 stolen bases.
