“Right now, I would feel he gives us the best chance to win,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said.

“At times, the guy has done a nice job,” Ryan added. “Geno has done a nice job here. I think the team has confidence in him and I have confidence in him.”

Smith and the Jets started out strong, but he’s struggled recently. In his last six games, Smith has thrown 10 interceptions and just one touchdown. Through 11 games, Smith has thrown eight touchdowns,  but 18 interceptions as well. He’s also turned the ball over 22 times this season and he’s completing 55.2% of his passes.

The only active backup quarterbacks the Jets have are Matt Simms, who’s thrown just 13 passes in his NFL career, and David Garrard who hasn’t thrown a pass since 2010.
