Johnson was victorious on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway and padded his lead a little after the win. Still, he knows that the championship is far from won just yet.

On his approach to Phoenix on Sunday, Johnson said, “[I’m] just not going to put my guard down. We need to go into Phoenix, raced well we finished second there in the Spring, so I feel strong about our setup.  We need to go out and have a strong clean weekend.”

Johnson also said that he’s better at handling the pressure that comes with winning now.

“Through the years of winning championships, you learn how to manage stress much better and find a way to enjoy the pressure and enjoy the stress,” Johnson said.  “There’s lessons to learn in everything and I always find something to learn through those down times.”

Kevin Harvick sits in third and is 40 points out.
