(NEW YORK) — For the first time since breaking his leg in last season’s Elite Eight contest versus Duke, guard Kevin Ware played in a game for Louisville.
Ware played 10 minutes, scoring six points and grabbing 4 rebounds in the Cardinals’ 90-61 exhibition game victory over Pikeville Wednesday.
Last week, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino told ESPN.com that Ware would dress for the team’s season opener Saturday versus College of Charleston, but Pitino wasn’t certain Ware would play.
“I wanted to get him some minutes just to get him over the jitters in case I need to use him against Charleston,” Pitino said after Wednesday’s game.
Ware entered the game in the second half and promptly hit his first shot, a 3-pointer from the corner.
“It was great. I’ve never felt like that before,” he told ESPN.com after the game. “I’ve been waiting for that moment.”
