With under two-minutes to go in the game, Manning was hit low by the Chargers Corey Liuget on a nine-yard completion to Demaryius Thomas.

The play caused Manning to stay down on the ground which prompted Denver’s training staff to run onto the field.

After being attended to, Manning stayed in the game, as the Broncos (8-1) ran out the clock.

“I’m pretty sore,” Manning said. “They kind of got me twice in that lower area. I felt better coming into the game after the bye week, but I’m pretty sure [I’ll] get an MRI tomorrow and will probably know a little more.”

The Chargers (4-5) did mount a nice comeback.

Denver took a 28-6 lead with 11:34 left in the third quarter when Manning and Demaryious Thomas connected for their third touchdown of the game. But the Chargers scored just minutes later when Philip Rivers found Danny Woodhead for a seven-yard touchdown pass. Ryan Mathews rushed for a one-yard touchdown early in the fourth, and a Nick Novak extra point made the score 28-20.

San Diego’s comeback stalled after that as the Broncos held strong to remain one-game behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

The game was also the first the Broncos played without head coach John Fox, who had his aortic valve replaced last Monday.
