(SEATTLE) — The Seattle Mariners introduced Lloyd McClendon as their new manager on Thursday. He becomes the 16th fulltime skipper in Mariners history.
The 54-year old is taking over for Eric Wedge, who left the team at the end of the season due to differences with the front office.
McClendon previously managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001 through 2005, where he accumulated a record of 336-446 for a .430 winning percentage. He has spent the past seven seasons as the hitting coach with the Detroit Tigers.
Seattle finished the 2013 campaign with a 71-91 record.
