“I’m happy to have the hat on and wear it for a couple of weeks and then turn it in,” Dantonio said after the game.

Jeremy Langford rushed for 150 yards and two scores for the Spartans (10-1, 7-0 Big Ten), who are now winners of seven straight.

One more victory will give Michigan State its third 11-win season in the past four years as the Spartans eye a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Trevor Siemian was intercepted twice for Northwestern (4-7, 0-7), who would go winless in Big Ten play if they don’t defeat Illinois next week.

“The Year ’13 is over here in a week — and good riddance,” coach Pat Fitzgerald said. “There’s something about that number I don’t like.”
