(WASHINGTON) — A congresswoman from New York City was the victim of a violent purse-snatching in Washington D.C. Tuesday night.
New York Democrat Grace Meng was reportedly walking home from dinner, along Pennsylvania Avenue, when she was struck in the back of the head. The assailant took her handbag and ran off.
In a statement, Meng called the incident a “frightening ordeal,” but said she was not seriously injured. The freshman congresswoman, who serves parts of Queens, suffered a bruise on her chin.
Authorities are still searching for a suspect.
