Carried aboard a Russian Soyuz capsule, it arrived at the International Space Station Thursday morning, about six hours after taking off from Kazakhstan.

The torch will next be taken on a spacewalk Saturday — the first ever for an Olympic torch — accompanied by two Russian cosmonauts.  It will remain unlit the entire time it’s in space.

On Monday, the torch will return to Kazakhstan, where it will go on to continue its journey to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, set to kick off on Feb. 7.
