The latest Gallup poll reflects a growing number of voters who believe it shouldn’t be the responsibility of the federal government to make sure people have medical coverage by 56 percent to 42 percent.

Just two years ago, a Gallup poll showed 50 percent supported government involvement with 46 percent opposed.  In 2012, the tide turned with 54 percent against and 44 percent in favor.

Pollsters believe the continuing political rancor over the Affordable Care Act and the botched rollout of the government’s health care exchange are turning people off to government-mandated coverage.

Eighty-six percent of Republicans want the government out of health care while 30 percent of Democrats and 55 percent of independents say the same — record numbers for both groups.
