(ISLAND PARK, ID) – Mt. Jefferson is a hotspot for recreation in the Island Park area, but a Montana Senator wants it off limits to snowmobilers. Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester wants the mountain designated as a “wilderness study area.” U.S. Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho says that he’s working to compromise with Tester to allow the south end of the mountain on the Idaho side to remain open. Tester’s bill, known as the Forest Jobs and Recreation Act, still has to make it through a Senate committee.
