Davis, who gained instant national fame by trying to filibuster Texas’ restrictive abortion law last June, is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

While it’s expected she could win the primary, the general election is another story, according to a survey released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling.  It shows Davis losing to Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, 50 percent to 35 percent.

What may be particularly discouraging for Davis, even at this early stage of the game, is that PPP is considered a Democratic-leaning poll service.

It’s believed she needs to attract a significant majority of independents to defeat Abbott as well as gain a healthy chunk of GOP crossover voters.

A PPP survey conducted last July had Abbott up by only eight points.

Even if former GOP gubernatorial hopeful Debra Medina runs as an independent, it’s only expected to cut slightly into Abbott’s lead.
