The injury will force Rose to miss the remainder of the 2013-14 NBA season.

Rose, who missed all of last season recovering from reconstructive surgery to his left knee, played in just 10 games this year, averaging 15.9 points per game and just over four assists. The 2010-11 MVP left Friday night’s contest against Portland in the third quarter and did not return.

There were two options going into the surgery for Rose, one of which including removing his meniscus, which could have had him back on the floor in a few weeks. Instead, Rose opted to have the ligament reattached, and he will be sidelined for anywhere between four and six months.

The Bulls enter Monday night’s action with a 6-6 record, having lost their last three games. Chicago visits Utah on Monday for a game with the Jazz.
