Tampa Bay Lightning Defeats Detroit Red Wings In Overtime, 3-2
Published at(DETROIT) — Forward Teddy Purcell scored at 3:51 into overtime as the Lightning (12-4-0; 24pts) edged past the Detroit Red Wings (9-5-4; 22pts), 3-2. It’s Tampa Bay’s first victory in the Motor City since Jan. 12, 1994.
Lightning center Steven Stamkos scored his 14th goal of the season at 12:50 into the second period with an assist from Victor Hedman. Detroit would later tie it up, when Henrik Zetterberg netted his 10th goal of the year with 4:12 left in the game.
With the win, Tampa Bay leads both Detroit and the Toronto Maple Leafs by two points in the Atlantic Division.
