Texans Coach Gary Kubiak Hospitalized After Collapse
Published at(HOUSTON) — Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak collapsed while walking off the field during halftime of Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Kubiak was then taken off the field on a stretcher and rushed to a local hospital for precautionary reasons, the Texans confirmed on their Twitter account on Sunday night.
“Coach Kubiak has been taken to a local hospital, he is conscious and his family is with him. #TexansGameday,” their Twitter account posted on Sunday night.
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips took over for Kubiak in the second half. The Texans were leading 21-3 at the time, but wound up losing the game 27-24.
“There was a lot of unknown,” Phillips said. “Everything was unknown as to what was going on and what happened to Kub. [Offensive coordinator] Rick Dennison obviously called the plays from the press box. We had to adjust as far as the head coach not being there. But it was a shock to everybody.”
Kubiak is currently in stable condition.
