The Surprisingly Down-to-Earth Way Gwyneth Paltrow Celebrates Christmas

Gwyneth Paltrow, 41, is the epitome of Hollywood royalty and class, and to think of People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman in sweats on Christmas morning is the last image that would come to mind.
But in the December issue of Red Magazine, on sale Nov. 6, Paltrow tells the magazine that Dec. 25 is about as low key as it gets.
“We spend all day in pajamas having bagels and coffee and sitting around and then I cook and I change,” she revealed.
With that said, for Christmas Eve and Christmas night, all bets are off and it’s the exact opposite experience.
“Christmas Eve is the rehearsal dinner,” she said. “I usually make something very different, like I’ll do an Italian Christmas Eve with seven fishes and sometimes a custom from another country. We don’t do Christmas lunch, we do dinner – like an early 5 p.m. dinner – and I make turkeys.”
Paltrow added that the morning in PJs is the only casual element of the holiday, as she, husband Chris Martin and the kids – Apple and Moses – all dress up for dinner with only the classiest sound track playing in the background.
“We are very into the Frank Sinatra Christmas album,” she said. “We had it my whole childhood, we always have that going.”
That’s more like it! She describes the scene of Christmas dinner as covered in tones of white lights and silver bows – like something out of a family movie.
“My [mom] has these amazing candle holders from Germany that you clip on and light real candles,” she said. “It’s beautiful, but quite a fire hazard – we only light them when we are sitting there.”
And even though Paltrow is moving back to Los Angeles from London to be closer to friends, this Christmas will be a “Brit Christmas,” and she added the move back to California will only be for a few years.
Especially with Apple and Moses getting close to that double-digit age range.
“I don’t want them to be teenagers in LA. No way,” she said. “I’m looking at this like two years, three years tops, then we will go back.”
Looks like bagels and coffee in London for years to come.
