GETTY 111913 BrittanyMurphy? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1384854504766Jean Baptiste Lacroix/WireImage(NEW YORK) — After Brittany Murphy died in late 2009, it was determined the cause was pneumonia and anemia.  However, a new report questions whether there was another, suspicious factor at play.

According to the Examiner, a lab test on the actress’ hair samples showed that she had dramatically elevated levels of aluminum and other metals in her system at the time of her death.  The lab’s report suggests that Murphy may have been poisoned, probably by “a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent.”

The private lab that performed the test was hired by Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, who sued the Los Angeles County coroner’s office in 2012 for access to his daughter’s hair samples that were in its possession.  He has long disputed the coroner’s findings.

Murphy died in December 2009 at the age of 32.  Her husband, Simon Monjack, passed away several months later.  His cause of death was also determined to be pneumonia and anemia.
