(STORRS, Conn.) — Shabazz Napier hit a jumper as time expired to give No. 12 Connecticut a 65-64 win over No. 15 Florida Monday night at Gampel Pavilion.
“It went in slow motion,” said Napier, who scored 26 points in the victory. “Point nine. Point eight. I just tried to shoot the ball as quick as I can but still shoot it regular. As soon as I let it go I felt it was going in.”
The Huskies (8-0) battled back and forth with Florida down the stretch, but in the end Napier refused to let his team lose.
“Shabazz was phenomenal,” Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie said. “When we needed the big shot he hit it. When we needed the big play he made it….He is one of the big-time players to wear the jersey and walk on the floor at Gampel Pavilion.”
The Gators (6-2) had their five-game winning streak snapped.
