While Blagojevich, 57, now sits in a federal prison in Colorado serving out a 14-year sentence, his lawyers are in court in Chicago arguing for his release, or at least a reduced sentence.

Blagojevich was convicted of corruption in 2011 for trying to sell President Obama’s vacant Illinois Senate seat. His lawyers will argue before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the jury wasn’t allowed to hear parts of secretly recorded phone conversations which show the ex-governor was not involved in an extortion plot.

It could take weeks for the three-judge federal panel to rule.
