The group owns eight restaurants in Boston, and said on Friday that the theft of credit card data “may have occurred from sometime in October 2013 to early November 2013.” The company owns the restaurants Anthem, City Bar, City Table, MJ O’Connor’s, Ned Devine’s, Solas, The Green Briar and The Harp.

Previous reports had emerged saying that a number of residents and visitors to the Boston area had been victims of credit card data theft in mid-November.

Following an initial investigation, The Briar Group released a statement on the breach, saying that not all customers during the timeframe given were victims of data theft. However, any individual who used a credit card at the group’s restaurants should carefully monitor their credit card statements for fraudulent charges.

The Briar Group said that it had been working with experts to lock down their system and conduct its investigation. They have also been cooperating with law enforcement to identify those involved in the breach.

“We want to extend our sincere apologies to our customers for any inconvenience they may have experienced as a result of this issue,” the statement from the restaurant group says. “We hope that this situation did not mar your impression of our wonderful city and can assure you that we are committed in our efforts to protect all credit card data.”
