Cavaliers Guard Dion Waiters Denies Trade Request
Published at(CLEVELAND) — Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters has had an up-and-down start to his NBA career, but despite the rumors, he denies ever asking the front office to be traded.
“Why would I do that?” Waiters said. “It doesn’t make sense. This is the team that drafted me. People come up with their own things, man. I know what I said and what I didn’t say. That’s one of the things I absolutely never said.”
Waiters was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Syracuse. He was touted as a prolific shooting guard, but he’s had trouble meshing with point guard Kyrie Irving. And there has been rumblings that teams like the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers were in talks about potentially acquiring him in a trade.
After a 4-12 start, Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown moved Waiters to the bench and the team has played better as a result.
In 22 games this season, Waiters is averaging 14.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game on .431% shooting.
