Novak nailed a 38-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Chiefs 27-24 and give the Chargers the No. 6 seed in the AFC.

The Chiefs (11-5) rested many key players that included quarterback Alex Smith, but still found a way to compete throughout.

Philip Rivers tossed three touchdowns in the victory and was happy to see the Dolphins and Ravens lose earlier in the day to give them a chance.

“We’re in and we got a chance,” Rivers said of playing the Bengals next weekend.  “We’re going to a tough place, they’re 8-0 at home and they beat us here, we’ve got our hands full.”

The Chiefs have lost five of seven headed into the playoffs and will take on the Colts in Indianapolis next Saturday.
