Clippers Top Celtics as Doc Rivers Returns to Boston

Jim McIssac/Getty Images(BOSTON) — Another victory in Boston for Doc Rivers, just like old times.
The former Celtics head coach returned to TD Garden for the first time with the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. The Clippers topped the Celtics 96-88 behind 22 points from Chris Paul and 21 from reserve guard Jamal Crawford.
“It was just a really nice day,” said Rivers. “This is, it’s just such a classy place here….They cheer for their teams and they love their athletes. The best decision I ever made was 10 years ago, when I decided to come.”
Rivers was traded to the Clippers this past summer for a first-round draft pick. Before the game, he received a standing ovation when he walked onto the court for warm-ups.
“It was a really special win,” Crawford said. “You could see his emotions. I don’t know what he was going through inside.”
Rivers coached the Celtics for nine seasons, leading them to their 17th NBA championship in 2008.
