The number of deceased from Monday’s trolley bus explosion increased to 16. A Dec. 29 attack at a railway station left 18 dead. More than 100 were injured in the blasts, including 65 people who were hospitalized.

The first funeral services for those killed in the Dec. 29 bombing was held Tuesday for two victims. Volgograd residents are bringing flowers to the bombing sites.

No one has claimed responsibility for the two explosions, though an operation by the Interior Ministry is underway in Volgograd to help track down possible terrorists.

Nearly 90 people were detained from Monday to Tuesday in response to the deadly attacks, operation spokesman Andrei Pilipchuk told the Rossiya 24 television station.

“Eighty-seven people were detained after they put up resistance to the police and did not have any documents allowing them to carry weapons,” Pilipchuk said. “All of them were taken to police stations. An inquiry is currently being conducted in relation to them.”
