Environmentalists Seek Legal Intervention in Wolf Derby

(SALMON, ID) – A group of environmentalists are asking a federal judge to put a halt to a wolf hunting competition in Salmon. The organization known as “Wild Earth Guardians” is claiming that the U.S. Forest Service ignored the requirement that the derby’s organizers purchase a special-use permit. The event, which is scheduled for this weekend, is expected to draw up to 300 hunters. All participants will still be required to buy wolf tags and follow all state hunting laws. Organizers are offering winning participants up to $2,000 in cash and other prizes.
