ESPN: Bill O’Brien Reaches Agreement to Coach Texans

Rob Carr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Penn State head football coach Bill O’Brien has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the Houston Texans, according to ESPN.
ESPN also reports the deal should be announced no later than Saturday.
O’Brien spent the last two seasons at Penn State, taking over a football program that had been tarnished by the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal.
During his time in Happy Valley, O’Brien led the Nittany Lions to a 15-9 record despite the program having a bowl ban and transfer rules that allowed players to leave Penn State immediately.
Before Penn State, O’Brien served as an offensive assistant for the New England Patriots from 2007-2011. He became the team’s offensive coordinator in his final season, when the Patriots reached Super Bowl XLVI.
In the summer of 2013, O’Brien had his contract amended which lowered his buyout to join an NFL team from $19.33 million to $6.48 million.
O’Brien takes over in Houston for Gary Kubiak, who was fired on Dec. 6.
The Texans finished last season with a 2-14 record and have the first pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
