ESPN: Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski Has Torn ACL and MCL

Boston Globe(NEW YORK) — The New England Patriots may still be riding high after their come-from-behind victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but it came with a price. According to ESPN, tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL and MCL and will miss the rest of the season.
Gronkowski suffered the injury during the third quarter after catching a pass from quarterback Tom Brady. He took a hit to his right knee from safety T.J. Ward and immediately fell to the ground.
“It was a decision I made just to make a tackle on a big man and unfortunately he got hurt, but if I would’ve hit up high, there’s a chance I would get fined and all that other stuff. I’m just being safe,” Ward said.
This is just the latest injury setback for the Pro Bowl tight end. He missed the first six games of the season as he recovered from offseason back and forearm surgery.
In seven games this season, the 24-year-old Gronkowski caught 39 passes for 592 yards and four touchdowns. Since his NFL debut back in 2010, Gronkowski has caught 42 touchdowns in 50 games.
