(NEW YORK) — Reliever Jose Veras has agreed to a one-year, four million dollar deal with the Chicago Cubs, according to ESPNdeportes.com.
ESPNdeportes.com reports the deal also includes a $5.5 million option and incentives.
Veras saved 21 games last season while with Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers. The 33-year-old Veras should become the Cubs closer for the 2014 season with Pedro Strop serving as the setup man.
Veras entered the majors in 2006 with the New York Yankees. Since then he has played for six other teams, compiling a 19-22 record, 3.84 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 388 strikeouts in 371 innings pitched.
