The House Ethics committee Monday announced it has established an investigative subcommittee, “to determine whether Rep. Henry J. ‘Trey’ Radel III violated the Code of Official Conduct or any law, rule, regulation or other applicable standard of conduct in the performance of his duties or the discharge of his responsibilities, with respect to conduct forming the basis for criminal charges of possession of cocaine in the District of Columbia, to which Rep. Radel pled guilty on November 20, 2013.”

Given Radel’s plea, this move by the committee is not unexpected. Reps. Charles Dent and Yvette Clark will serve as Chairman and Ranking Member of the subcommittee. Reps. Marsha Blackburn and Janice Hahn were also named to the subcommittee.

If he is found guilty of the alleged violations, he could face three possible courses of action — expulsion, which is unlikely — censure or reprimand.
